The media is a powerful lobbying tool, particularly when educating the public and building support for controversial issues. How you manage the media and how the media portrays you can have serious implications in public and political circles. The Palmetto Policy Group employs both paid media advertising and media relations on behalf of its clients. A strategically placed newspaper ad, an issue-oriented television spot run at a critical point in a debate, or direct marketing, can create the momentum needed to change votes and redirect a piece of legislation to a client's favor.
Media relations involves working with both the editorial and news staff of newspapers, radio and television stations, and requires a higher degree of expertise and finesse to succeed. Unlike paid media, we do not have control over what is printed or broadcast. We do, however, have control over the message. We work with clients on formatting the message, getting that message to the media, and seeing that it is communicated consistently and accurately. This includes crisis communications. The Palmetto Policy Group can serve as the client's spokesperson or aid your company's spokespeople. In either case, we will assist in the development of strategy, messaging, media and public speaking coaching, interviews and follow-up with legislators.
